Canva export troubleshooting

Canva PDF links not working? Check the exported file.

A link can exist in your Canva design and still disappear, point somewhere unexpected, or fail in the PDF your customer receives. Diagnose the final file before you publish it.

Check your exported PDF

Start with the result, not the design

Open the exported PDF instead of the Canva editor or preview, then scan that exact file. The result quickly separates three different problems:

  • No clickable links found: the export probably contains no embedded hyperlink annotations.
  • The link appears but fails: the annotation exists, but its web destination may be mistyped, unavailable, or redirected.
  • Only some links appear: compare the page map with your Canva design to isolate the missing buttons or text.

A reliable Canva PDF link checklist

  1. In Canva, select each linked text element, button, image, or shape and confirm its destination.
  2. Use a complete web address beginning with https://.
  3. Download a fresh PDF Standard or PDF Print copy intended for digital delivery.
  4. For an interactive deliverable, leave Flatten PDF off and test the result. Canva describes flattening as merging document layers, including annotations, into one layer.
  5. Scan the exported PDF with LinkHandoff and review every page containing a link.
  6. Run the web-link check, then manually open important checkout, booking, download, and contact links.

Why browser testing alone can mislead you

A browser or PDF reader may turn visible text such as example.com into a clickable link on its own. Another reader may not. Embedded PDF annotations are more dependable because the click area and destination travel with the document.

If a URL opens when you click its letters but LinkHandoff reports no embedded link, return to Canva and attach the destination directly to the intended text or object.

Check high-risk links twice

Prioritize links tied to a purchase, appointment, template, course portal, download, affiliate offer, or email address. A generic homepage redirect may technically respond while still sending the reader to the wrong place.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a URL look clickable even when the PDF contains no hyperlink?

Some PDF readers automatically recognize URL-shaped text. That reader-generated behavior can hide the fact that the exported file has no embedded link annotation.

Does LinkHandoff upload my Canva PDF?

No. The PDF is read locally in your browser. Only extracted web addresses are sent when you choose to run the manual link check.

Can LinkHandoff repair a missing link?

No. It identifies the affected page and destination so you can correct the Canva design and export a clean source-of-truth file.
